LA COUNTY DESIGNATED DISASTER ROUTE

County Designated Disaster Routes are NOT Evacuation Routes. Although an emergency may warrant a road be used as both a disaster and evacuation route, they are completely different. An evacuation route is used to move the affected population out of a disaster area.

Disaster Routes are freeway, highway or arterial routes pre-identified for use during times of crisis. Disaster Routes play a primary role in disaster response and recovery. They are utilized during a disaster and immediately following to transport emergency equipment, supplies and personnel into impacted areas in order to save lives, protect property and minimize impact to the environment. During a disaster, these routes have priority over all other roads.

As a County Designated Disaster Route, the southbound lane of Kanan Road must remain clear during a disaster.
The driveways into and out of the upcoming West Village project which allow left turns against southbound Kanan traffic will block access of emergency vehicles on this County Designated Disaster Route.
